The SPCA took a big knock when losing their National Lottery funding but they refuse to give up and have launched creative ways to keep saving the animals.

As many of you will know, the NSPCA recently had its funding pulled. The National Lottery was a big funder to the organisation and with that gone, the various SPCA branches have been left to raise their own funds.

People have been up in arms about the funding withdrawal and we don’t blame them, it really sucks! Thankfully there is always good news and people willing to do good. The Tails Up Club was set up by the Cape of Good Hope SPCA as a way to continue funding their mobile clinics.

Our Mobile Clinic program is a critical component of our commitment to deliver care to those most in need and the Tails Up Club is helping us to make this happen.

Operating in destitute communities around Cape Town, the Mobile Clinics provide primary veterinary care and educate owners about responsible pet care. We now have four mobile clinics to meet the ever-increasing need for service delivery and during the last year, the Mobile Clinics performed almost 30,000 treatments.

Dipping, de-worming and vaccinating are among the vital services that are provided. Animals in need of sterilization – and those that are ill or injured – are transported to our Animal Hospital for further treatment and returned to their owners afterwards.

The organisation has secured a sweet deal to help them raise more funding. They are asking people to sign up to the club for as little as R50.00 and stand the chance of winning R10,000.00 in cash. There has been a winner every single month since 2015. You can find out how to sign up here. There are only a limited amount of spaces in the club.

All proceeds go towards keeping the Mobile Units on the road which enables the SPCA to provide much-needed services to animals in local communities.

If you are not able to make a financial contribution, the organisation accepts donations of food, blankets and more. Give your local branch a call and find out what they need most.
