Nicolene Smith shared a video of a man singing opera on the beachside a few weeks ago, now she has an update video that will warm your heart
Nicolene Smith was having lunch with her parents at “Ons Huisie” at Bloubergstrand in October when Mapoyi Mthetho walked alongside the restaurant and serenaded the guests singing Nessun Dorma. The video went viral and people wanted to do more for Mapoyi.
Since then, things have been quiet but not for lack of anything happening. Mapoyi was contacted and now he is wowing audiences at the NG Kerk in Melkbosstrand. Nicolene has shared an update on Facebook showcasing Mapoyi’s talent at a recent Christmas service.
“Remember Mapoyi Mthetho, the Opera singer who performed for us at Ons Huisie in October? Well here he is performing at the NG Kerk Melkbosstrand during their Christmas service on 3 December 2018.
He was so nervous as singing in English and with an instrument guiding him is completely out of his comfort zone. A local music teacher, Lizette Du Toit Pretorius, who also plays the church organ, practised with him and he did so well!!”
With the help of the music teacher, Mapoyi hopes to learn as many different genres of music that he can. Nicolene says he has a hunger for learning and is determined to use this opportunity to its fullest.
“Mthetho is determined to try out other genres of music. He loves Italian, but he is hungry for more!! More knowledge about the history of music, more insight into different genres, more songs, more music… Just more of doing what he loves… Singing and making people happy!!
I have been thinking of words to describe Mthetho and I came up with “Humble”, “Appreciative” and “Extraordinary”.
He is not scared to work hard and deserves a second chance!! He deserves to be recognized and he deserves to be on a big stage. He’ll do whatever it takes!!”
Nicolene hopes that by sharing this update, someone who can offer him a career sees it.
