A breast cancer awareness campaign is cleverly highlighting how to spot if something isn’t right, by demonstrating it on lemons.
Global – Social media has banned the nip; accounts get shut down all the time for letting the nip slip. This makes it increasingly hard for breast cancer awareness organisations to send out clear messages. One organisation found a smart way to educate women without offending social media trolls.
Know Your Lemons was started to educate women about the early signs of breast cancer by illustrating it on lemons. Worldwide Breast Cancer is a creative global nonprofit who wants to radically change the picture of breast cancer.
Aside from the commonly known lumps, the lemons portray several lesser-known signs. The campaign has been viral and is creating a clear message.
“For the first time ever, women around the world can easily understand what they need to know when it comes to breast health, personal risk and getting diagnosed.
When found early, breast cancer survival is nearly 100%. When found at Stage IV, it is terminal. It is increasing in every part of the world, with 1 in 8 women being touched by the disease in the USA alone.
Never before has the power and impact of our work been more critical. You can become a trained Know Your Lemons® educator in your country to be part of this important work and change the picture of breast cancer for good.”
