Elton and Haneef Davids have collaborated with the Cape of Good Hope SPCA to raise funds for 20,000 microchips, ensuring more animals find their way home.

Cape Town, South Africa (02 March 2020) – One in three pets go missing in their lifetime, and without proper ID, 90% of them never return home. This sad statistic is what inspired Elton and Haneef Davids to ride the Cape Town Cycle Tour on 8 March for charity.

Their aim is to raise funds for 20 000 Identipet Microchips for the cats and dogs at the Cape of Good Hope SPCA.

We have shared several stories about how animals that went missing were reunited with their families after years thanks to microchips.

Stories like Zeus’ warmed people’s hearts, he went missing and two years later, was found in horrific condition. He was covered in mange and was far too skinny. The SPCA scanned him and found a microchip. They called the number and Matthew was reunited with Zeus after years of worry. You can read their story here.

Another one is of Koda the Husky. Koda was stolen as a puppy. Ten years later, he was found roaming the streets and once again, scanned. His microchip reunited him with his family a full ten-years-later! You can read his amazing story here.

Those are just two stories, imagine what 20,000 microchips could mean? You can find out how to get involved with this amazing initiative below.
