The 13th of November is World Kindness Day, and these are 5 ideas of kind things you could do for someone else today. Let’s share the love today!
Global (13 November 2020) – World Kindness Day was born when a collection of humanitarian groups came together on November 13, 1997, and made a “Declaration of Kindness”. People are encouraged to perform acts of kindness on this day. It can be done by donating books, food or clothes to your local community or any other type of kindness.
“Acts of Kindness: A random act of kindness, no matter how small, can make a tremendous impact on someone else’s life.” ― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
We thought we would share 5 easy idea’s that you can do to brighten someone else’s day. Here is what you can do today:
Positive interactions
Smile (these days with your eyes), wave or even something as simple as complimenting someone’s shoes is a good way to start. It costs you absolutely nothing and can really make someone’s day so much brighter.
- Wish someone a good day
- Compliment a person; it can be about their smile, shoes or a job well done.
- Open a door for a stranger, remember to sanitise afterwards.
Pay for something
An act of kindness can be as simple as paying for someone’s coffee or lunch. If you have the budget, surprise someone by paying for their groceries or petrol. You can buy someone airtime or even leave an encouraging note in your bill along with an extra tip for your waiter(ess).
Do an anonymous deed.
If you prefer to remain anonymous, there are many ways to make sure someone benefits. You can leave a kind note on someone’s windscreen, or if you are sure you won’t get caught, you can wash a neighbours car. You can donate blood or sign up to be an organ donor; these are considered anonymous because you won’t know who benefits from your donation.
Volunteer your free time
There are thousands of places looking for volunteers daily. Sign up for a cause you believe in and visit next time you are free.
Donate to a local charity
A donation doesn’t always have to be a financial one. A person can spring clean their home and donate unused goods. Most places will sell the items in their charity shop if they are unable to use it for the charity. Books, Bric-a-Brak, Furniture and clothing, are always a good place to start. Blankets and old carpets are great donations for animal shelters. Food options are always great for orphanages, homeless shelters and animal shelters.
What are some of your favourite ways to share kindness? What will you be doing today for World Kindness Day?
