A couple walked into a toy store and paid off 82 struggling families lay-bys!
Melbourne, Australia (05 November 2021) – Christmas has come early for 82 struggling families who have had their lay-bys completely paid off by anonymous donors.
We love stories like these! And every year, without fail around this time, Christmas Angels from around the world inspire us all with their acts of kindness. Last year – almost to the day – a South African walked into a store and paid off R270,000 in lay-bys… this year, a couple walked into a toy store and did the same.
Debra Delves, the owner of a Toy Store in Australia, said two grandparents walked into the store on Wednesday, wanting to give back, and then paid off 82 lay-bys for struggling families. She said while the ‘Secret Santas’ weren’t wealthy themselves, they had done it tough when they were younger and wanted to change as many lives as they could.
“They told us a story about how they were in hardship when they were younger and struggled to pay their bills ahead of Christmas,” the Delves said. “They always swore that if they ever found themselves in a position where they could help, they would.”
The store owner said she was given the ‘best job ever’ to call the 82 families who were chosen at random and tell them the good news.
“You don’t realise how much of an effect the last 12 months has had on these families,” she said. “We’ve all been pretty numb for the past 12 months, and it’s just beautiful to see people sharing their emotions. It gives me goosebumps.”
We know this is just the start of these good Christmas deeds and look forward to bringing you similar stories from South Africa!
