Every year, OUTsurance pledges to create Santa Shoeboxes for children in need, this year they are helping 100 children and volunteering their time too!
Centurion, South Africa – The Santa Shoebox, is an excellent initiative that aims to give underprivileged kids the joy of a fantastic Christmas. The Santa Shoebox Project is one of South Africa’s best-loved children’s charities and has touched the lives of well over 858 673 underprivileged children throughout South Africa and Namibia.
The Project, which is now in its thirteenth year, is an inspiring community initiative, that collects uniquely personalised gifts for underprivileged children. Equally, the project is about parents teaching their children the Joy of Giving.
Every year, OUTsurance pledges a large number of boxes. They invite the staff to join the cause and fill a box for a child in need. The company selects children aged between 5-years-old and 12-years-old and staff pick their child. They then collect them all and go drop them off at the depot.
After the boxes have been packed, and are ready to go, staff volunteer to make sure every box that is packed in Gauteng, has enough in it. Thousands of boxes get checked. This is done in October.
“We feel privileged to be able to help give children in need a festive season boost. Each and every box is lovingly checked by our volunteers to ensure the contents is complete and age-appropriate.” – Mariske Keyter, OUTsurance Staff Helping SA Out Coordinator
The OUTsurance points-men and women also get involved, they co-ordinate the traffic on drop-off day as well as assist in offloading boxes.
So far this year, 58% of the boxes have been pledged. If you would like to pledge a box, you can find out more about the Santa Shoebox Project here.
