Schools across South Africa rallied to collect as many plastic tops and tags as possible, bringing wheelchairs to those who need them most!
South Africa (11 December 2025) – The Sweethearts Foundation and EPR Waste Association of South Africa (eWASA) have named their mightiest recyclers for 2025!
Schools across the country rallied, right throughout the year, to collect as many plastic tops and tags as possible, all with the same goal of giving the gift of mobility to the poor and marginalised.
In total this year, The Sweethearts Foundation, together with its community, has gifted 50 life-changing wheelchairs through recycling over 100,000 kilograms of plastic.
The Sweethearts / eWASA Schools Challenge alone brought classrooms across the country together to contribute towards the meaningful cause. Learners collected, counted and sorted bread tags, knowing that every effort would help bring mobility to children and adults who need it most.
Schools put on an amazing show of teamwork, spirit and determination this year. The mightiest recyclers (nine schools have been named) who collected the most tops and tags have each won a picnic bench made entirely from recycled materials.
One school stood out, claiming the 2025 Sweethearts / eWASA Cup. The Western Cape’s Beaumont Primary School recycled 42 five litre bottles packed to the brim with bread tags. Following closely behind in Second Place is Gqeberha’s Cornerstone Play & Learn Centre, turning in 37 five litre bottles.
