Proving that community spirit is a team effort, members of the Amanzimtoti Fire Brigade joined forces with local organisers to clean and hose off walls, beginning the prep work for a vibrant makeover of a much-loved mural.

Amanzimtoti, South Africa (28 January 2026) – An exciting project to rejuvenate a mural at Umdoni Road in Amanzimtoti is underway!

Originally painted in September 2021, this much-loved artwork will be refreshed by local artist Christine Andrews, who has once again been commissioned to do what she does best – paint Toti bright and beautiful by bringing new life to the mural.

Jumping on board to lend a vital helping hand to the effort were members from the RP 37 Amanzimtoti Fire Brigade. Taking a break from their daily duties, the team arrived armed with pressure hoses and brooms to deep-clean the walls – setting the stage perfectly for the work ahead.

A collaborative initiative by Sapphire Coast Tourism and Tidy Towns Amanzimtoti, the project forms part of the organisations’ shared mission to keep the region clean, green and beautiful.

Just last week, the Hutchison Road bridge in Amanzimtoti received a fresh coat of sapphire blue, creating a welcoming gateway for residents and visitors to the Sapphire Coast’s sports precinct at Hutchison Park.

Local businesses also assisted with the cutting and removal of branches, stepping up to clear the school precinct area of Umdoni Road in Amanzimtoti – ensuring safer, easier access for scholars and the community alike, just in time for the start of school Term 1.

It goes without saying that this is a community that steps up and shows up for their neighbourhood!

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the local fire department’s Justin Bateman, Station Commander Khanyase, and the dedicated team for helping wash away the grime to kickstart the latest rejuvenation project.

To ensure the success of the mural makeover, Sapphire Coast Tourism is calling on partners and sponsors to help make light work of this community beautification initiative.
