If you had your Christmas prezzies wrapped at Ballito Junction in December, your contribution has helped save wildlife!
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (26 January 2026) – The Ballito shopping mall hosted its annual gift wrapping initiative in December. This time around, the organisation that benefited was the Dolphin Coast’s Wildlife Rescue.
The volunteer-run wildlife rescue group received a generous donation of R108,000!
The gift wrapping initiative runs every year during the holidays. It was created to raise both awareness and funds for a local charities in recognition of the important work they do.
“Wildlife Rescue, founded by Lindy Elms plays an important role in rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife in Ballito and surrounding areas.” shares the shopping mall.
This year, more than 50 volunteers generously gave their time to wrap gifts for shoppers, while hundreds of customers chose to support the project (and save on the stress of gift wrapping – it’s a thing!)
“The success of the cause lies in the heart of the community, with over 50 volunteers generously dedicating their time to wrap gifts. We would also like to extend a sincere thanks to all shoppers who supported the initiative and donated so generously, making a significant contribution to the protection and rehabilitation of local wildlife,” shares Ballito Junction.

Wildlife Rescue is a non-profit made up of dedicated volunteers who act as permitted first responders for injured, orphaned and distressed wildlife across the Dolphin Coast. They work closely with veterinarians and other wildlife organisations, assessing, stabilising and transporting animals in need, ensuring they receive the medical care and rehabilitation required. They don’t charge for callouts and rely entirely on donations and fundraising initiatives like this one to keep up the good work.
Wildlife Rescue also focuses on protecting KwaZulu-Natal’s biodiversity through education and community engagement including encouraging the planting of indigenous vegetation, promoting wildlife-friendly rubbish bins, and advocating for safe wildlife crossings to reduce road fatalities.
Wildlife Rescue shared their appreciation for the donation.
“We are so grateful to Ballito Junction and our wonderful community for spreading a little Christmas cheer in aid of Wildlife. Thank you from wild hearts!”
