The Duzi-uMngeni Conservation Trust (DUCT) has achieved a remarkable milestone! By creating 1,000 job opportunities across KwaZulu-Natal, DUCT has not only improved the health of the uMngeni and uMsunduzi Rivers but also transformed the lives of countless individuals.
Pietermaritzburg, South Africa (14 January 2025) – When job opportunities are hard to come by for many youngsters trying to secure a promising future, or just make ends meet, it brings us hope to learn that there are organisations working overtime to create jobs for those in need.
The Duzi-uMngeni Conservation Trust (DUCT) recently shared the incredible milestone of impacting 1,000 lives through its various environmental and community development projects.
Environmental conservation in South Africa presents significant hurdles and challenges. DUCT tirelessly works to improve the health of the uMngeni and uMsunduzi rivers while also implementing initiatives that empower local communities to become stewards of their own land. It prides itself on being a catalyst for professional growth, transforming lives and livelihoods.
Recently the organisation shared that with the support of the Social Employment Fund (SEF), Wildlands and Unicef South Africa, it has managed to successfully create 1,000 job opportunities across KZN to date!
One of the 1,000 heartwarming testimonies is that of EnviroChamp Nokwanda Mzobe, who, through an SEF programme, was able to seize the opportunity to undergo first aid training and soon secured a position as a First Aid Practitioner on a television production.
The job opportunity provided her with an income to support her child, and her experience as an EnviroChamp has sparked a deeper passion within the water conservation sector. Nokwanda hopes to study a course in water and sanitation this year.
“We’re humbled to have impacted over 1000 lives, we’ve watched EnviroChamps blossom into confident leaders, our junior staff rising through the ranks, and have witnessed a sense of purpose ignite within certain individuals,” DUCT said.
The organisation’s success demonstrates the positive impact of conservation efforts on both the environment and human lives.
As we find our feet into the new year, DUCT looks forward to transforming more lives and creating a lasting impact on our environment.
