Is it snowing in the middle of Summer? No ways… it’s just a jozi highveld hail wonderland!
Johannesburg, South Africa (05 December 2022) – Parts of Johannesburg were transformed into what could easily be mistaken for a “Winter Wonderland” after a highveld thunderstorm brought down buckets of hail.
The clouds had been circling Gauteng for most of the morning but the heavy rain started at around 2 pm.
The South African Weather Service notified all Gauteng residents to please take care on the roads as severe thunderstorms are expected to continue across the province into the evening.
“The public is advised to take the necessary precautions such as avoiding crossing rivers or swollen streams where water is above their ankles, as well as listening to special warnings on radio and TV,” forecaster Lebogang Mashile explained.
