Two kid-heroes rescued a chameleon named Pepper who needed human help and donated their pocket money to support the wildlife champions with whom they entrusted Pepper’s care!

Howick, South Africa (18 November 2024) — Two kid-heroes recently made non-profit organisation FreeMe Wildlife’s day, thanks to their decision to step up for a chameleon!

Siblings Charlie and Zac found the chameleon (a female that they later named Pepper) in a state where they determined that she needed assistance from wildlife professionals. Not a pair to leave the task up to someone else, the kid-heroes made the mature decision to take her to FreeMe Wildlife, a wildlife trauma and rehabilitation centre based in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal.

The team were deeply touched by the small act of kindness the youngsters had granted Pepper and soon shared more about the work they do for other species.

FreeMe Wildlife is behind many rescues, rehabilitations, conservation projects and rewilding efforts; supporting animals from duikers to tortoises. No matter whether an animal flies, scurries or slithers, has a great chance at survival or a slim bet, the team grant it the best fighting chance at living its best life back in the wild.

“After learning more about our work and the animals we care for, they decided to donate the hard-earned pocket money they had received from their Gran to our cause,” FreeMe Wildlife Champions shared.

“Their generosity, at such a young age, reminds us all that kindness and care for animals knows no bounds. Thank you for showing us that small acts of love and care can have a lasting impact. Pepper and all the animals in our care are incredibly grateful.”
