Yesterday was World Spay Day, but Mdzananda Animal Clinic doesn’t need a designated day to prove its devotion. The numbers speak for themselves. This week alone, our Khayelitsha heroes gave 123 furry friends a healthier future.
Khayelitsha, South Africa (26 February 2026) – Yesterday was World Spay Day, but in Khayelitsha, local animal heroes didn’t wait for the calendar to tell them what matters.
In between emergencies, burn cases, sick patients and everything else that walks (or is carried) through Mdzananda Animal Clinic’s doors, the team worked tirelessly this week to sterilise 123 animals for the Khayelitsha community!
“That’s 123 animals protected from preventable disease. 123 futures changed. Hundreds of unwanted litters prevented. Hundreds of lives spared from suffering before they even begin,” the organisation said.
For the Mdzananda team, sterilisation isn’t just a procedure. It is one of the most powerful, practical tools in animal welfare.
“It reduces roaming, fighting, and certain cancers. It prevents puppies and kittens being born into hardship. It eases the burden on families who are already doing their best with limited resources. It protects entire communities.”
And none of this happens by accident. It happens because the team of vets, nurses, animal welfare assistants, and admin staff show up every single day, moving from surgery to emergency to recovery without missing a beat.
“We are incredibly proud of what was achieved this week. To our team: your dedication changes lives in ways most people will never fully see. To our supporters: every sterilisation is only possible because of you.”
A massive salute to the Mdzananda team; your tireless work doesn’t just change lives, it transforms an entire community, one wagging tail at a time.
