These rhinos had the right idea! Sundays are best spent with a swim and a snooze.
Mpumalanga, South Africa (21 January 2026) – Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary’s wild residents are making the best of the heavy rains! New wallows and pools have formed across the reserve, making perfect rhino-shaped divots for orphaned rhinos to ‘chill’ in…
“Spotted in the Intensive Protection Zone, Autumn, Grace, and Mabush were enjoying a welcome break from the intense humidity. Following the heavy rains, new pools and wallows have formed throughout the reserve, offering rhinos and wildlife perfect places to cool off.
It’s quite unusual to see the rhinos lying in water with so little mud, but they appeared to be thoroughly enjoying the refreshing coolness, showing absolutely no inclination to move anytime soon. A perfect way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon!” shared Care for Wild.
That’s a very comfortable crash in a puddle. It’s special to see them at such ease in a safe space.
Care for Wild is the world’s largest orphaned rhino sanctuary. They’re dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rewilding endangered rhinos and other African wildlife. The organisation provides specialised care for orphaned rhinos and prepares them for release back into protected areas – because the wild is where they belong. Where they deserve to feel safe and free.
For now, the sanctuary’s natural pools will do just fine!
