An incredible update to a story that touched so many hearts! Sello and his dog, Option, are finally getting the happy ending everyone hoped for – along with some extra love and support, thanks to the kindness of complete strangers!

Free State, South Africa (29 October 2025) – On Monday, we shared the story of Sello, a man from the Free State, and his loyal dog, Option. The two are inseparable. When Option was struck by a car last week, Sello refused to give up on him.

He tried every shelter, but no one was able to help. Then, the Virginia SPCA picked up the call. Without hesitation, Sello set off to meet them, walking 15 kilometres with Option in his arms. When he finally reached Senior Inspector Ernest Khakhau on a road outside Odendaalsrus, he carried nothing but love and hope for his best friend.

The SPCA took Option in, but they couldn’t save him without urgent veterinary care. That’s when their online community stepped in. The plea for help went up on Facebook and within hours, hope had poured in by the bucket.

Now, thanks to the kindness of strangers, Option will get the treatment he needs. Once he’s healed, he’ll go straight back home to Sello, and the pair won’t just walk away with a second chance, but with a little extra love too.

Every cent of Option’s veterinary bills has been covered, along with his follow-up visits. For the next three to four weeks, he’ll be boarding safely at the Virginia SPCA, with good food and cuddles. Sello will be transported regularly for visits, and he’ll also receive a bundle of his daily essentials – extra support for a man who went the mile for his doggie.

When Option goes home, he’ll be sterilised, vaccinated, and microchipped. His meals for the next 12 months are already taken care of. He’s even getting a brand-new harness, lead, and a year’s worth of tick and flea treatments.

“All of this became possible because one man’s love for his dog inspired hundreds of hearts to act. Sello walked 15 km carrying Option, who was in pain with a broken leg — and in that moment, you all chose compassion over indifference,” shared the Virginia SPCA.
