Hoedies gathered to spread festive joy over the weekend, with over 40 ‘flashmobbers’ giving it their all to some serious Christmas classics!

Hoedspruit, South Africa (03 December 2025) – Seeing communities come together in gees gives us the goosies. This past Saturday, members from the small town pulled off something special in the parking lot of the local shops.

It was a full-on community flashmob. Put on by the town’s resident performers, local dance schools and anyone who organisers’ could rope in.

“It started with Santa roaming through the carpark. Then, out popped an entourage of elves. And the Grinch himself, demanding much attention. He was greeted at the entrance of Pick ‘n Pay by some of our talented local singers performing Santa Claus Is Coming to Town. We broke out into dance after that. Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree saw Hoedies’ very best moves. It all ended on a high with Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You.” shares Tony Smith, a member of the Hoedspruit Amateur Dramatic Society.

It took months of planning and weeks of rehearsals throughout November, organised by the newly-formed Hoedspruit Amateur Dramatic Society.

The goal of the 15-minute flashmob was to spread Christmas cheer in Hoedspruit and to shed some light on the town’s recently formed drama society.

Yes. The Kruger-adjacent town also supports an active community of dramatists!

“The Hoedspruit Amateur Dramatic Society was put together earlier this year, following conversations between some dramatically like-minded folk – Maureen Lahoud, Demini Aves and Darren (Crusty) Humphrys – after watching the Royal Variety Show and lamenting the lack of creative outlets for adults in our little town.” shares Tony.

“The goal is to bring together everyone looking for their spotlight moment, as well as the backstage types, and put together some productions, have some fun and see how far we can go while adding a bit of drama to the Lowveld.” he adds.

The flashmob was the first of many performances to come. And it was a highlight.

“Beginning to end it was just awesome to see groups of people from ages 7 to 70 coming together and having a blast,” shares Tony.

“We have received so much positive feedback from the community, and certainly gotten our name out there and we just want to say thanks for the support and watch this space…. Big productions are coming soon. Jump on our Facebook page to be kept up to date.”

Another instance of Hoedspruit coming together just to have fun! This was after the town made headlines in September for community CCTV dance battles. Obviously, it’s the place to be.
