The award-winning animated series has been dubbed into 4 African languages, allowing children across the continent to enjoy Bluey’s heartwarming stories in the languages they grow up speaking.

South Africa (05 September 2025) – Growing up, many of us laughed, learned, and dreamt alongside our favourite TV shows. But imagine hearing those same stories told in the language you grew up speaking at home. That’s now a reality for millions of children across Africa, as the beloved animated series Bluey makes its debut in Zulu, Afrikaans, Swahili, and Nigerian Pidgin.

BBC Studios announced the exciting news at FAME Week Africa, marking a big step in ensuring that world-class children’s programming speaks directly to African audiences in their own voices.

South African TV presenter and podcaster, Nonkanyiso Conco, has brought the character of Mum (Chilli) to life in the Zulu version, while Nigerian presenter and actress Omotunde Adebowale David does the same for the Nigerian Pidgin dub.

“Voicing Chilli has been a deeply personal and joyful experience,” said Nonkanyiso. “Bluey’s stories are universal but hearing them in our own languages makes them feel even more special. It’s a gift to our children.”

Produced by Ludo Studio and created by Joe Brumm, Bluey follows the playful adventures of the Blue Heeler pup and her family, with games and imagination at the heart of every story. Already loved in over 140 countries, the show now extends its reach in Africa in a way that feels more personal than ever before.

Barbara Jerzyk Alvarez, Head of CEEMA Content Sales at BBC Studios, said the move is about connection. Localising Bluey in four African languages, more children can experience the magic of family life, imagination, and emotional growth in their mother tongue.
