She’s a feline of few words, but there’s one that rolls right off her tongue, and it just happens to be proudly South African. Meet ‘Aweh Cat’.

South Africa (19 April, 2023) — The most South African cat to ever roam Mzansi has been discovered. She might be a feline of few words, but the one she does say (and communicates in perfect twang) happens to be one all locals understand. Meet ‘Aweh’ cat, South African TikTok’s latest obsession surpassing language barriers.

If cats of the country were a contest, we know would be up for the winning.

Take a Look

In a video shared by her owner @soniaoli4r, Coco the one-eyed cutie can be seen chilling in the car with her human mom, chatting up a storm. It has since garnered almost half a million views.

You know your cat is from South Africa when her meow perfectly replicates the local word ‘aweh’.

Now, if you didn’t know, ‘aweh’ works wonders and serves universal purposes. It’s a greeting in some moments, a goodbye in others. It also happens to be the purest signal of excitement when the lights turn back on after loadshedding and the word of utmost agreement you and a friend share when the peri-peri chicken hits just the right way.

Locals React:

“Ma se kind < meow se kind.” — TomShacks

“Holy hell, even the tone sounds right, a statement/question.” — Mr Remmington

“Not to be dramatic but I would die for this cat.” — Leigh-Shaan

“Awe my cat aweee.”— liezhar

“give that [cat] a beer.” —nellas

“Proudly south african.”— Sameera

Naturally, many turned to The Kiffness in hopes of a potential collaboration with ‘Aweh Cat’.

Will she become the music sensation and follow in the pawprints of other cats that have come before her? We’re invested.
