In the mood to giggle for a good cause? The funniest wildlife photos of the year have just landed on your radar!
South Africa (29 October 2025) – It’s that time of year again when monkeys, lions, frogs, lemurs and all sorts of creatures unintentionally strike a pose that makes us LOL.
The finalists for the 2025 Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards have just been shared, and the images have us cackling all over again, like a pack of hyenas.
The idea that started the competition came from wanting to spark a different kind of awareness around wildlife and the need to protect it – one that starts with a laugh and a giggle.

It’s actually an incredibly clever use of anthropomorphism – one of our strongest impulses as humans. Associating a wholesome, human quality, like humour, with animals helps us empathise and understand their lives a little better.
By tapping into this universal instinct, the competition has become a growing bank of giggles that many of us look forward to every year. It sees thousands of entries, and the project supports grassroots conservation initiatives around the world through the support it receives.

We love that it’s about opening our eyes to nature’s quirky side, and not closing them in despair.
This year, there are 40 photographs that have made it through to finals, all worthy of a cackle. Plus a stack of funny videos. You can find the full gallery here – and we’ve shared a few of our favourites with you throughout the article.

The winners will be announced on 9 December 2025 at the official awards night in London. If you find yourself on that side of the pond over the holidays, you could attend a free exhibition from 10-14 December at the OXO Gallery, where the funniest finalist photos will be on display.
