Marketing can seem like it comes from another world for a small business, but thanks to Catherine Black and Belinda Mountain, it just got a whole lot easier to understand.

South Africa (03 July 2023) – If you have a small business and have felt like you needed to step up your marketing know-how in order to help your business thrive, but felt overwhelmed by what is available online; or blown away by what it may cost to take on a team to help you, you are absolutely not alone.

Many small South African businesses are facing this dilemma. It took marketing specialists Catherine Black and Belinda Mountain years to build up their know-how and experience. Today, they are sharing it all with South Africans in their book called “Small Business Big Plans“. Providing knowledge that is perfect for use in the South African context.

These talented women put pen to paper and came up with an extensive guide to help South African businesses navigate and understand digital marketing. They proudly launched their new book in May 2023, with much praise from the small business community.

Good Things Guy got the chance to read the book and felt it was a great tool for any business. We genuinely feel this is an entirely helpful guide for any South African wanting to build up their business.

Having a grasp of modern digital marketing can feel incredibly overwhelming but this book serves as a mentor and guide to help the layman make a real mark and potentially take their business to the next level.

This isn’t a one-time read either, we predict it will live a long life, never quite ending up on the bookshelf, always a little dog-eared page here and there – turning from book to reference guide.

Some of the contents of the book that we loved include:

  • How to market a product versus a service
  • How to create a website;
  • The basics of search engine optimisation;
  • How to write emotive web copy that inspires action;
  • How to launch your own digital PR campaign;
  • How to navigate the world of influencers and social media.

There are resources to help lay the groundwork, sure up your tactics and execute the perfect digital marketing plan. Before long you will be throwing out terms like “KPIs”, “USPs” and “SEO” and they won’t make you quiver in fear.

It’s basically your dream agency without the fuss and it fits in your briefcase.

What it truly is though, is that empowerment factor that is bound to help a business find its footing and become a serious contender for boosting the economy.

“Small Business Big Plans” was published on the 19th of May 2023 and is available as a paperback at all bookstores. For more about the book, take a look at the website here.
