This year, there will be an extra cute toy added to the Santa Shoebox Project’s virtual boxes; the ladies at Kya Crafts are making Snuggleheads for each child.
South Africa (02 June 2023) – The Santa Shoebox Project has teamed up with Project Purpose’s Kya Crafts ladies to add a cute toy to each of its 2023 virtual boxes. The “Snuggleheads” will not only add joy to the boxes, but they empower the crafters of Kya Sands.
Project Purpose launched Kya Crafts as a way to empower women to create crocheted items which they can then sell. The project empowers ladies in the informal settlement of Kya Sands with gaining financial independence and management skills through crocheting projects. The items include soft toys, the Scoody and other useful knitted items.
Virtual Santa Shoeboxes
The Virtual Santa Shoeboxes are made up on the donor’s behalf by teams of volunteers and will be allocated to underprivileged children living in remote rural areas of South Africa. Because of the lack of donors in such remote areas, these children would not receive a Santa Shoebox at all if it weren’t for the donors who buy our Virtual Santa Shoeboxes.
Every Virtual Santa Shoebox contains all 8 required items – a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, a facecloth, sweets, a toy, school supplies and an outfit of clothing – as well as extra items, which include a drinking bottle and an activity booklet. The items are packed into a cheerfully printed container and affixed with a colourful label showing the child’s name.
These boxes are also a great way for people living outside of South Africa, to take part in the annual Santa Shoebox Project. You can find out more about the virtual boxes here.
