It’s Friday, fam! Which means it’s time for my Friday Five… the guide to what’s worth your time, your ears and maybe even your travel plans this week.

Somewhere in the UK (05 September) – Ahhh, Friday! That glorious day that feels like the unofficial start of the weekend, when everything just seems a little lighter, a little easier and a whole lot more exciting.

I honestly believe Fridays should come with their own soundtrack, their own must-watch list, and their own menu of good vibes. That’s exactly why The Friday Five is one of my favourite features on Good Things Guy. It’s my go-to guide for all the lekker things I’m watching, listening to, visiting and loving right now.

So, let’s dive in. This week’s Friday Five is packed with drama, music, travel plans and a reminder that good things are always waiting for us.

🎬 Movies you must watch!

📱 Unknown Number: The High School Catfish

A teen girl and her boyfriend are relentlessly harassed by an unknown caller and what begins as a creepy intrusion spirals into months of torment. The investigation that follows uncovers a truth so devastating, it turns everything upside down.

And honestly? WTAF. I’ve experienced something similar, but in no way could I have predicted the outcome of this story.

This doccie is disturbing. It’s a psychological thriller that slithers into your mind and stays there. The twist will knock the wind out of you. It’s unsettling, raw, and for anyone fascinated by psychology, manipulation, or just how deceptive people can be, this is one to watch.

😵‍💫 Eenie Meanie

She’s a reformed teenage getaway driver trying to outrun her past when an old employer drags her back into the criminal world, this time with the life of her unreliable ex-boyfriend hanging in the balance.

The story promises high stakes, and while it doesn’t quite deliver fireworks, it makes up for it in character. The pacing leans heavily on the setup, and the payoff isn’t earth-shattering, but there’s something satisfying about watching her arc unfold. It’s simple, efficient, and while not groundbreaking, it’s worth a watch if you want something straightforward.

📺 Series

🚔 The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox (Disney+)

The Amanda Knox case has been dissected endlessly… a young woman imprisoned for her roommate’s murder, fighting to clear her name in a media circus that made her infamous. This new drama retells her story, focusing on her years behind bars and the uphill battle to prove her innocence.

It’s important to say upfront: the show is drama, not documentary. It’s one-sided and shouldn’t be taken as gospel. But that doesn’t stop it from being gripping television. Grace Van Patten delivers a standout performance, perfectly capturing Knox’s mix of vulnerability, awkwardness and misunderstood behaviour, the very traits that shaped public opinion against her. It’s messy, emotional and strangely addictive. I’m hooked and can’t wait for more. Oh, there is also a lot of Italian, so unless you speak it, get ready to read it.

👀 The Terminal List: Dark Wolf (Amazon Prime)

When Navy SEAL Ben Edwards is abruptly discharged, he stumbles into a new career with a shadowy CIA operative. The deeper he sinks into covert intelligence, the murkier the moral waters become.

This show is pure adrenaline. Every episode cranks the tension up another notch, blending brutal action with complex ethical dilemmas. It’s the kind of series that has you promising to stop after “just one more,” and then suddenly it’s 3am and you’re still glued to the screen. ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!

🎧 Music

Fridays need a soundtrack. Luckily, this week’s new releases (plus one unexpected rediscovery) are absolute gems… and yes, I’ve bundled them into a playlist on Apple Music. Sorry Spotify fans, I’m still team Apple.

🎶 Lady Gaga – The Dead Dance

A wild, gothic, glorious banger that only Gaga could pull off. The cherry on top is that the music video is directed by Tim Burton, which means it’s deliciously dark and completely fantastical.

🎶 Kings of Leon – We’re Onto Something

I’ve loved Kings of Leon from the very beginning and this track is everything I hoped it would be. Classic KOL energy with a fresh twist (feat Zach Bryan)… it’s the kind of song that makes you want to roll the windows down and sing at the top of your lungs.

🎶 Bryan Adams – Will We Ever Be Friends Again

I didn’t plan to fall into this one but somehow it found its way onto my playlist… and I’m not mad about it. It’s nostalgic, catchy and has a warmth that feels strangely comforting.

So if you’re looking for vibes to carry you through the weekend, trust me: this playlist will do the trick.

🌍 Places to Go (or plans to go)

I’ve been in the UK this week, wandering through century-old pubs, tiny villages and the kind of history that makes your jaw drop. I’m here with family and friends, and it’s been beautiful… but somehow, every single conversation circles back to South Africa.

I guess as gorgeous as the world is, there’s just nowhere quite like home.

I am already looking forward to getting back (to SA) next week. And then it’s the roll on to Dezemba vibes. Can you believe there are just 16 Fridays until Christmas??? Goeie Genade.

So I am already daydreaming about Dezemba now! And this year my plan is simple: a little time in Jozi, then off to the coast. I don’t know exactly where I’ll settle yet (North KZN, South KZN, maybe even Plett) but I do know what I want… long summer days, braais that stretch late into the night, ocean swims, time with family and friends and that festive energy you can’t bottle. Or can we? I’m going to try.

Dezemba in South Africa is different. It’ a whole culture. The air feels lighter, the music gets louder and suddenly everyone’s in a better mood. And I think we can all agree that a better mood is what we all need.

Ja, daydreaming hard for Dezemba vibes in South Africa.
