A shining light in a time of despair and darkness, Gift of the Givers volunteers have been on the ground, providing immediate relief to hundreds of homes in Cape Town communities reeling from severe flooding.
Cape Town, South Africa (09 July 2025) – Heavy rains, strong winds, and flooding have severely affected parts of the Western Cape, with Cape Town among the worst hit.
The devastation of the vulnerable and destitute families has seen Gift of the Givers volunteers respond to the hundreds of flooded homes in low-lying areas like Mfuleni, Khayelitsha, and Langa. Road closures and a rockfall on Victoria Road have also raised safety concerns.
“Despite operating without governmental support and confronting budgetary constraints, the incredible spirit of ordinary South Africans has been our foundation. Together, we’ve embarked on a mission to bring hope to thousands living in dire situations,” says Gift of the Givers’ Dr Imtiaz Sooliman.
As weather warnings persist, homes are destroyed, families displaced, animals left in the wet, cold and futures clouded by uncertainty.
In its ongoing efforts to alleviate these dire circumstances, deliver immediate help and essentials, and ultimately restore hope to those who have lost so much, Gift of the Givers has launched an urgent crowdfunding appeal to support affected communities.
“This initiative is about more than providing aid; it’s about restoring dignity, hope, and faith in humanity to those most affected by these disasters.
“We call upon you to join us in this mission. Together, we can demonstrate the power of unity and the strength of our shared humanity. Let’s stand with those facing the harsh realities of these crises and show them they are not alone,” Sooliman appeals.
Donations are eligible for a Section 18A tax certificate. To make a contribution, visit Gift of the Givers’ BackaBuddy page.
Our hearts go out to all those impacted during this difficult time.
