And the best part? When said grumpy girl child tries to tell Alexa to stop – Alexa hears her accent as ALASKA – and then tells her lots of useless information about Alaska.

South Africa (08 June 2022) – The Village is one of the most incredible groups on South African Facebook right now – a safe space for parents to ask questions or tell stories – and this post with regards to how an Alexa helped this mom with parenting is heartwarming, hilarious and completely wholesome!

The Village was created on the 23rd of January 2017 and has grown to over 45,000 members who share posts every single day. It’s an online community in South Africa of supportive, non-judgmental parents of tweens, teens and young adults.

Kirtsy MacConachie Weaver shared a post to the group about her daughter and Alexa. Read it below:

Winning at Parenting!

My daughter asked for an Alexa for her 16th birthday. We begrudgingly indulged her wishes and ordered her the Alexa Echo Dot with an alarm clock. Turns out: Best gift ever!!!

If you own a 16-year-old, then you will know the challenges of getting such species up and ready in the morning.

Cue: Alexa, my new BFF (best friend for life).

I simply tell Alexa to wake the slumbering beast at a set time in the morning, and et voila: all the abuse is hurled at an inanimate object that struggles to understand her accent and just NEVER gives up.

It’s brilliant! Pete and I have become kids again, telling Alexa to wake girl child up with “Yo Mama” jokes, or bad “Dad jokes”, and she never disappoints.

And the best part? When said grumpy girl child tries to tell Alexa to stop – Alexa hears her accent as ALASKA – and then tells her lots of useless information about Alaska.

Do yourself a favour and buy your kid an Alexa for their next birthday! You won’t regret it.
