A group of runners, along with their communities and supporters, proved that when people unite for a compassionate cause, extraordinary things can happen!

Hillcrest, South Africa (25 August 2025) – Not all heroes wear capes; some wear running shoes and their hearts for compassionate causes on their sleeves.

A group of dedicated runners rallied their communities and loved ones to support their efforts in raising funds for the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT) at this year’s Comrades Marathon, and the response was a resounding success!

Together, volunteers, runners and the supporters backing them were able to raise R800,000!

“This achievement is more than just a number. Every rand represents our ability to continue to provide unconditional love and hope to those in our care and fuels our mission of creating healthy, empowered and AIDS-free communities,” HACT shared.

For runner Nadia, the charity run was about championing a cause that offered unwavering support to people during some of their darkest days. And as another runner, Nyambeni Nefale, put it, the test of endurance from the marathon was nothing compared to the daily struggles of those the HACT supports.

They’re just two members of a greater group who poured themselves into backing an organisation that provides vital care and support to those trying to find their way back to good health and renewed purpose.

HACT acknowledged everyone who believed in the cause and, by doing so, have significantly contributed to saving and transforming lives.

“We are deeply grateful for each and every one of you who stood by us, gave what you could, bought tickets and spread the word.”

“Together, we’ve proven that when a community comes together, we can do extraordinary things. Thank you for being part of this journey. This victory belongs to all of us!”
