Howl! A new art museum has opened on High Street in Hermanus…

Western Cape, South Africa (26 January 2026) – Hermanus’ newest museum has opened, and its inaugural exhibition has cast many a close eye already!

Pressed against the wall of a local café, it’s called The Little Wolf Museum.

The space was founded by a young entrepreneur, Dee, who knows that curiosity doesn’t have limits – not even in size. Dee and her brother Jean-Maree are co-owners of Mr. Write, the charming coffee, tea, and gift café that now also houses the town’s tiniest museum.

“I love using every free pocket of space to spark curiosity through books, gifting items or small visual surprises. There’s a wall just outside the shop that felt like prime real estate for something that could delight even passersby.” says Dee. “While brainstorming together, my mum reminded me that since childhood I’ve loved three things: romance, creativity, and miniatures. She suggested, ‘Why not build Hermanus’s smallest art gallery?’”

Instead of a gallery, it became a museum. A tiny place that invites observation and curiosity before anything else. It’s charming, and supports local artists by giving their work a new, unique and unconventional platform. A QR code is attached to the side of the museum for visitors to learn more about the artist and their work.

“Through the Little Wolf’s website and onsite information, visitors can learn about the museum’s intention, explore the current exhibition, and discover more about the artist.”

This gives viewers a chance to connect with exhibiting artists and explore their wider body of work, purchase a piece, or request a commission.

What’s on show at The Little Wolf will rotate a mix of group and solo artists.

“The intention is to create another entry point into the local art world, on a miniature scale.”

The museum’s current exhibition features top South African artists, including Adriaan S. de Lange, Peter Southworth, Nicole Liebenberg, David Knynauw, and Toinette Lindley.

The Little Wolf Museum is open at all times at 26 High Street in Hermanus.
