The matric girls of Jeppe High closed their schooling career by leaving a touching gift that will directly restore a sense of pride and self-esteem for younger learners who follow.
Johannesburg, South Africa (26 November 2025) – As the Jeppe High School for Girls matriculants put down their pens for the very last final exam on Friday, 21 November, they closed one chapter and stepped boldly into a future of their own creation.
More inspiring, they didn’t leave with only fond memories. They left behind their school shoes, a powerful symbol of where they have been, and a generous act of paving the way for those who will follow.
These school shoes will be given to learners from disadvantaged backgrounds whose need for new school shoes often doesn’t make it on the long list of needs and priorities their families need to cover.
For an underprivileged child, proper school shoes are more than just footwear; they are a crucial part of the required school uniform and a symbol of dignity and belonging. Not having them or wearing torn, ill-fitting shoes can negatively impact their confidence and schooling experience.
“By donating their shoes, our Matrics are gifting dignity, possibility, and hope to learners who may not have the means to afford school shoes of their own,” said Jeppe High.
“These are the shoes that carried them through years of growth, resilience, challenges, and triumphs… and now, they will carry someone else toward the same path of opportunity.”
The school further wished the Class of 2025 well on their journey ahead and thanked them for choosing kindness as their final act in the corridor they’ve walked for so long.
“May the steps you take next be bold, brave, and deeply fulfilling. Your legacy lives on not only in the halls you leave behind, but in the footsteps you’ve made possible for another.”
