KZN Tourism and the Hospitality Think Tank gathered industry leaders to engage in powerful discussions that resulted in a concrete path forward for KwaZulu-Natal’s tourism future.

Umhlanga, South Africa (18 November 2025) –  In a proactive effort to breathe new life into KwaZulu-Natal’s tourism vision, KZN Tourism and Hospitality Think Tank brought together leaders in hospitality to tackle critical challenges, identify emerging opportunities, and, most importantly, develop actionable solutions.

Five panel discussions held on 6 November tackled critical challenges, identified emerging opportunities, and developed actionable solutions to drive growth.

The 5 Key Priorities

The result was a powerful display of collaboration and an official action plan outlining five priorities for immediate implementation.

The plan prioritises vital initiatives such as achieving strong public–private alignment, driving cohesive collaboration across sectors like infrastructure and agriculture, and utilising data-driven decisions to guide strategy and attract new air routes.

A key step for progress is the commitment to update the KZN Provincial Tourism Master Plan with private sector input, ensuring accountable investment. Crucially, the plan calls for collectively changing the narrative to amplify KZN’s success stories, fostering a movement of collective pride and showcasing the province’s resilience, beauty, and immense opportunity.

The Think Tank’s successful outcomes were swiftly acknowledged by the KZN Premier, setting the stage for united action between the public and private sectors.

“These initiatives have reignited enthusiasm across the sector, reaffirming a shared commitment between public and private entities to move forward together,” says Chris Godenir, creator of the Tourism & Hospitality Industry Think Tank concept.

“But now the real work begins. We must translate these aligned priorities into tangible action.”

Investing in the Next Generation

Beyond strategy and dialogue, the KZN Tourism and Hospitality Think Tank carried a purpose-driven mission, with proceeds supporting the non-profit Touching Dreams and its Think Big Academy dedicated to creating youth employment opportunities within South Africa’s tourism sector.

The day concluded with the Dream the Impossible Dream Gala to help raise additional funds for the KZN youth employment programme.

“We’d like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to key industry collaborators and attendees for their support and unwavering commitment to our shared goals. Together, we are making significant strides toward a brighter future,” concludes Godenir.
