If you’ve been overwhelmed by life’s challenges and happen to be near Muizenberg, the Roxy Davis Foundation offers a unique solution: surf therapy! This initiative uses the power of the ocean to improve the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages and abilities.
Cape Town, South Africa (20 January 2025) – Let’s face it: life can get really hard, whether you’re dealing with stress at work, family issues, health challenges, or problems draining your bank account. Sometimes, the best thing we can do for ourselves is to find an escape from all the outside noise and refill our cups.
For those fortunate enough to be by the coast, one such escape can be right in the middle of riding the waves.
By using progressive structured ocean-based therapy programmes, the Roxy Davis Foundation is able to breathe new life into people by improving their mental and physical well-being through the power of surf therapy.
Surf therapy is not just for people with physical or intellectual disabilities. It’s for everyone!
The charity will be hosting a Surf Therapy Clinic on Saturday, 8 February, in Muizenberg (Surfers Corner), Cape Town, where participants can reap great rewards.
Good Things Guy spoke with the foundation’s founder, Roxy Davis, who reiterated that the surf therapy programme offers mental, physical, social, and emotional health benefits.
“This aligns with the International Surf Therapy Organisation’s (ISTO) belief that surf therapy promotes psychological, physical, and psychosocial well-being.
“There is a significant impact of the surf therapy programme on reshaping the participants’ worldviews, both in terms of how children see themselves and how they interact with the world,” Roxy explained.
Volunteers are welcome to support the event and be a part of an incredible movement to build an inclusive community that actively supports people in trying to navigate life and its challenges, both in and out of the ocean.
Keen ocean ambassadors between the ages of 18 and 23 can also sign up for the Ocean Ambassador Course starting on 4 February. The course is designed to inspire, educate, and empower young ocean enthusiasts to become stewards of marine conservation.
