Watch: SA raise the flag at the Nandos International Grillers Challenge in Dublin

Nando’s is changing the lives of their employees and offering them the chance to spread their wings with this life-changing competition and experience.

Nando’s International Grillers Challenge in Ireland – While rugby fans around the world are glued to their screens as countries compete for the World Cup Rugby Trophy, a competition of a different kind took place in Ireland.

Dublin played host to the world cup of grilling great chicken, with the Nando’s International Grillers Challenge 2019. The final hosted Nando’s Grillers from around the globe taking part in the competition to find the ultimate winner and master griller.

Top finalists in the region battled it out at the SA National Grillers Challenge at a central kitchen in Johannesburg, and the top 4 Grillers are then invited to the International Griller’s Challenge, where they compete against regional winners from other countries. The Nando’s International Grillers Challenge takes place in a different host country every year, and all contestants not only get to compete on the grill against each other but also spend time getting to know each other, not to mention learn about the culture and visit some of the sights of the host country.

Nando’s is changing the lives of their employees and offering them the chance to spread their wings with this life-changing competition and experience.

The winners in their regions who got to jet off to the Emerald Isle had this to say:

“Grillers Challenge is about more than grilling, though. It’s a chance to travel, to meet people and to learn.” – Ndumiso Phiriee – aka Msholozi, Nando’s Innercourt

“Everything I do comes from the heart. Taking part in Grillers showed me that we’re Family.” – Bongolwethu Mpambani aka Bongo Fire, Nando’s Lambton Drive Thru

“I have so much love and passion for Nando’s and my job. Competition day was tough, but my supporters helped chase the fear away.” – Felix Ngubo aka Bongoman, Nando’s Shelley Beach

“It was a good experience, and the love and joy we experienced meeting
fellow Grillers brought us together.” – Sphesihle Maibuko aka Shoes, Nando’s CK Campus

The SA team grilled their hearts out, and the support on the ground was mind-blowing, with singing, chanting and dancing from beginning to end.

2019 belonged to Pappa Touffour from USA who took this year’s title as Master Griller, while, Tristan Ramsubag from Canada and Abi Warren from UK and Ireland came in joint second place.

Even though the title of Master Griller was not to be for us this year, the SA team definitely brought award-winning ‘gees’, with our very own Pertunia Mabotja winning the Supporters Spirit Award while Shin Then from Australia won the Grillers Spirit Award.
