OneCart and Good Things Guy celebrated Mandela Day by bringing joy to 67 deserving South Africans through grocery deliveries, showcasing the country’s spirit of kindness and community.

South Africa (25 July 2024) – South Africans have always been known for their generosity and willingness to help those in need. This spirit of kindness shone brightly once again this Mandela Day, as Good Things Guy and OneCart joined forces to bring joy to 67 deserving individuals across the nation.

The campaign, organised by OneCart aimed to celebrate Nelson Mandela Day by bringing smiles to those who needed it most.

OneCart, a leading online grocery delivery app, is dedicated to making shopping convenient and accessible. With a simple click, customers can have groceries from multiple stores, delivered directly to their doorsteps, saving time, and providing ease to those with busy schedules or mobility challenges. This service has been a lifeline for many, particularly during times when getting to the shops isn’t possible.

The objective was simple yet profound: to provide 67 grocery deliveries, each worth R500, to individuals nominated for their deserving nature and life challenges. Nominations flooded in from all corners of South Africa, highlighting stories of neighbours sharing kindness, grannies needing a bit of love, husbands searching for work, cancer patients in the fight of their lives, and kind-hearted individuals working tirelessly in charity organisations.

“Our principle of bringing ease and convenience into the lives of South Africans guided our approach to how we spent our Nelson Mandela Day,” shared the OneCart team. “The occasion served as a conscious reminder of what we can achieve together, as well as the essence of Ubuntu.”

Ubuntu represents the deep-rooted African philosophy that emphasises the interconnectedness of all people and the collective responsibility to support one another. The term “Ubuntu” translates to “I am because we are,” encapsulating the idea that our humanity is tied to the well-being of others.

This campaign illuminated the incredible stories of Ubuntu. From heartfelt gratitude expressed by elderly recipients to the joy of families receiving much-needed assistance, the initiative highlighted the deep connections and compassion within communities. These moments of kindness and generosity created lasting memories, reminding us all of the power of coming together to uplift those around us.

The OneCart team recounted their experiences, noting, “We aimed to bring to light the struggles individuals face while shopping and offer assistance. Our personal shopper teams were on the ground, ready to help by pushing customer trolleys, accompanying lonely elders, and assisting moms with kids in tow.”

The impact of this campaign on the community was profound. The images and heartfelt messages of thanks received by Good Things Guy and OneCart have spoken volumes about the positive change brought to the lives of these 67 individuals. The campaign also highlighted a beautiful trend: younger individuals stepping up to help their elders with placing orders, showcasing a community willing to support each other in times of need.

“Although delivering groceries to 67 people, at our cost, hasn’t impacted the entire country, the images, and heartfelt messages of thanks we have received indicate a significant impact on the lives of those 67 individuals,” remarked the OneCart team.

By celebrating the spirit of Ubuntu and extending a helping hand, OneCart and Good Things Guy have once again shown the incredible power of community and compassion. Let’s keep this momentum of kindness going, South Africa. Together, we can continue to make a difference, one act of kindness at a time.
