From learning how to approach pets safely to understanding the value of empathy, St Christopher’s School pupils enjoy a lively, educational visit from P.A.R.R., complete with fun activities

Pietermaritzburg, South Africa (31 October 2025)- The spirit of kindness and animal care came alive at St Christopher’s School in Pietermaritzburg this week when representatives from P.A.R.R. (Project Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation) visited the pupils for an educational and heartwarming session.

Foster mom Jacqui led an engaging discussion on responsible pet care, covering everything from feeding and shelter to showing animals love and respect. The learners were enthusiastic participants!  Hands shot up during the Q&A sessions, and their impressive answers showed just how much they already understood about caring for animals.

Adding to the excitement, Verity, one of P.A.R.R.’s supporters, reminded the children about the importance of always asking a pet owner’s permission before approaching or touching a dog. It was a valuable lesson in empathy and respect. One that many young animal lovers sometimes forget in their excitement.

The highlight of the day was when Verity’s Springer Spaniel, Gimli, took centre stage. Together, the pair wowed the pupils with a cheerful demonstration to the tune of “Oh Patty,” showcasing the special bond between a well-trained pet and a caring owner.

The visit also had a tangible impact, the school community generously donated pet food and blankets to support P.A.R.R.’s ongoing work. Pupils helped load the donations into the van the next day, a small act that carried a big heart.

P.A.R.R. expressed their gratitude to the school for its warm welcome and incredible generosity.
