Donate a pile of unwanted books and make a difference!
Johannesburg, South Africa (26 January 2026) – Raise your hand if you’ve got ‘declutter’ as a goal for 2026. If you’re part of the club, remember that decluttering also means the opportunity to donate. Your pre-loved or gently used items could make a difference to somebody else.
Unwanted books are a biggie when it comes to decluttering the bookshelf. Where to turn with a pile of books you no longer need? If you’re in Joburg, the Rotary Club of Rosebank is one of the many charitable organisations worth donating to.
After a successful first book sale last year that raised R11,700 for people in need, the club is hosting another sale at the Summerfields Shopping Centre in Boskruin on 31 January. Every book on sale will be priced at R10!
Proceeds from the sale go towards several beneficiaries, including Rotary International’s flagship PolioPlus initiative, which has fought to eradicate polio since 1985. With over a 99% reduction in cases worldwide, the programme continues to raise funds and support immunisation efforts to protect children.
Other beneficiaries include Charity Begins with Me, a grassroots organisation that supports vulnerable children growing up in challenging circumstances, and Baragwanath Hospital Community Care’s paediatric department, which brings essential support to sick children in Soweto and surrounding communities. Emmarentia Eventide Salvation Army Home, a compassionate independent care facility, also benefits. It provides safe, dignified housing and support for elderly individuals aged 60 to 75 who are financially vulnerable and socially isolated.
