Lion King

South African Actor John Kani will be playing the iconic role of Rafiki in the new live action Lion King movie. The cast includes some Hollywood legends too!

The full cast has been announced for the new live action Lion King movie. We were really excited to see a South African has been selected as one of the most iconic roles in the movie.

Actor Bonisile John Kani is also a director and playwright. He was born in New Brighton, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Kani will be playing Rafiki, the wise Baboon that helps Simba realise his destiny. Kani has also starred as King T’Chaka in the Marvel studios blockbuster Captain America: Civil War and will reprise that role in Black Panther.

Rafiki drops some serious knowledge and challenges Simba to face his destiny and grow up! He asks a question that every adult everywhere has asked themselves at one point in life.

“The question is: who are you?”

We cannot wait to hear the wise words in a Saffa accent. Here one of our all-time favourite quotes.

“The past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it.”

If the previous live-action movies are anything to go by (The Jungle Book and Beauty & the Beast to name a few) then this is going to be an amazing movie!

Other cast members include Beyonce, Seth Rogan and the legendary James Earl Jones who will reprise his former role as Mufasa. You can see the full cast list below.
