Restaurant Mosaic at the Orient Boutique Hotel outside Pretoria is top of the list for the best wine list in the world; this is a proudly South African moment!
Pretoria, South Africa – Restaurant Mosaic at the Orient Boutique Hotel outside Pretoria is one of the best in South Africa. In 2017, owner and head chef Chantel Dartnall was named the World’s Best Female Chef for 2017 and back in 2014, she was voted South African Chef of the Year.
Now Chantel can add yet another accolade to the long list that the restaurant has acquired. This year Restaurant Mosaic at the Orient has topped the list for the best wine list in the world.
The restaurant has a beautiful wine cellar which houses a total of 75,000 bottles of wine. Seeing as South Africa is home to some of the best wines in the world, this accolade is no surprise.
The wine list award is said to be as important to restaurants as the Michelin Star is to chefs. They are in the same class of prestige.
The organisers praised the sommelier for the effort placed in curating a winning wine list.
‘Hidden in the Crocodile River Valley in the lush Francolin Conservancy, Restaurant Mosaic at The Orient is one of South Africa’s finest luxury hotels – featuring one of the country’s best-loved and most respected restaurants, worthy of its supreme praise and three top recognitions at the World’s Best Wine Lists Awards 2019.
‘The creative cookery of Restaurant Mosaic at The Orient is well-matched by a superb modern wine list containing over 5,000 selections. Described by our judges as “a phenomenal list that is a joy to explore”.’
The sommelier at Restaurant Mosaic is Moses Magwaza, who oversees one of the most comprehensive wine cellars in South Africa, comprising more than 75,000 bottles of wine under 5,500 different local, as well as international, labels.
They also recently won the ICON Award from Diners Club Wine List Awards for 2019!
We are so proud to see one of our own become the top in the world once again.
