Desperate to get the Foo Fighters to visit their small village in Italy, 1000 musicians rallied together to play “Learn to Fly”.

Italy (27 March 2022) – Good stories about the Foo Fighters are being shared widely on social media after the heartbreaking news broke on Friday of Taylor Hawkins’ death.

Hawkins had been with the band for 23 years and recorded eight studio albums together.

The Foo Fighters announced Hawkins’ death on social media; the band was on tour in South America and was scheduled to perform that night at the Estéreo Picnic Festival. The festival stage on which the Foo Fighters were to perform that night was turned into a candlelight vigil for Hawkins.

Since then, good stories featuring the band have been shared widely on social media, particularly this video from 2015.

Desperate to get their favourite band to visit their small village in Italy, 1000 musicians rallied together to play “Learn to Fly” by the Foo Fighters. The video was made in an effort to get Dave Grohl’s attention.

And it worked!

Foo Fighters performed there the same year, opening their set with “Learn to Fly.” Grohl said he looked at the video after receiving “100 texts”, crying when he finally watched it.

“Because, when we make music, we do it in our basement, or our studio. It’s very simple and we write songs, and then we make the record and we don’t really think about the rest of the world,” he said.

“So, of course, we couldn’t say no. We had to come, You tricked us, you trapped us. we had to come here.
