What was supposed to be a day of outdoor adventure up Table Mountain was quickly cut short by a nasty fall when a 51-year-old hiker missed a step on the Kloof Corner trail. Thankfully, it wasn’t long before a call for help went out, and the mountain’s guardians answered.
Cape Town, South Africa (27 October 2025) – A 51-year-old hiker’s moment of panic and uncertainty after a nasty fall down the Kloof Corner trail on Table Mountain was met with a wave of gentle care on Saturday, 25 October.
With careful coordination, Wilderness Search And Rescue (WSAR) teams, including SANParks – Table Mountain National Park rangers and EMS paramedics, carried her down the steep and stepped terrain in a gurney, repeatedly calling out “slowly” to one another to ensure steady movements as they navigated the challenging landscape.
“We care deeply about the well-being of every patient. Sometimes that means taking it slow, step by careful step, to ensure everyone gets down safely,” WSAR said.
Thanks to the rescue teams’ slow and steady approach, the senior hiker was brought down to safety and transported to the hospital by an ambulance for further care, concluding the incident at 1.22pm.
Sharing a video of the rescue on Facebook, where social media users have responded with heartfelt words, praising the first responders as brave angels whose dedication saves lives.
“WSAR teams, our Guardian Angels on the mountains, are truly the unsung heroes, rescuing and saving lives with precision and care,” Andy Nold commented.
Roland Lethem added:
“Well done to the entire rescue team for your continuous support and commitment.”
WSAR extended its thanks to all the teams involved for their coordinated effort and wishes the injured hiker a speedy recovery.
The WSAR emergency contact number is 021 937 0300.
