Ashur Petersen and his mom just hit 4,6 million views with their cover of “A Whole New World” from Disney’s Aladdin.
Cape Town, South Africa – A mother, son duo from Cape Town are going viral globally with their rendition of a song from Dinsey’s Aladdin.
Ashur Petersen and his mom, Madeegha Anders, posted the video on the 2 June 2019, and it has already racked up 4,6 million views!
Ashur, the son of the late Great Dr Taliep Petersen, is a 24-year-old up and coming South African entertainer and recording artist.
Ashur is a young man that comes from a musical family, he grew up with both parents being music artists and producers, and this naturally has rubbed off on him. He matriculated from Wynberg Boys High School in 2010; he then went to study at the University of Cape Town doing his BMUS. He has been part of various small community bands, Malay choirs and university bands, but he is now on the road to his own career as an artist.
Ashur recently successfully produced his very first show and performance called “Like Father, Like Son”, which was a sold-out show at the Baxter Theatre’s Concert Hall and 2 sold out shows at the Artscape Theatre.
The mother and son cover has been shared far and wide, but Ashur believes that this video is more significant than just himself and his mom.
“A friend of mine messaged me to say: “This is HUGE for Cape Town” and then it hit me.
This video is far bigger than my mom and myself. This is for my people. The Capetonians. For my people who never get recognised. For the artists who work their arses off with no recognition. If only the world knew about the talent that we breed in this land, we’d be unstoppable.
Slowly but surely, Cape Town is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with.
I will go anywhere in this world, stand for my people and say “I am Proudly a Capetonian… one of the most beautiful cities in the DAMN WORLD!” Oh yes!! We’ve reached 4 MILLION VIEWS!!”
