Bilbo was separated from his owner after an ambulance took him away to be cared for in a hospital, the dog was moved to the SPCA where he is waiting for his dad.

Parow, Cape Town – Last weekend we shared the heartbreaking and equally heartwarming story of Bilbo, the loyal dog. Bilbo, who was found in Parow sitting next to his unconscious owner. He stayed by his owner’s side for two whole days waiting for help to arrive. We tear up every time we think about the love shared between Bilbo and his owner, and how worried Bilbo must have been in that situation.

Now, a week later, the search for Bilbo’s dad is still on. Bilbo’s dad, a homeless man, was found gravely ill laying on the roadside. An ambulance was called to take him away, and a local security guard called the SAPS to help with the dog. Bilbo was picked up and dropped off at a local vet.

The vet called the SPCA for assistance. CoGH SPCA Pound Manager Jody Africa immediately collected the very friendly male Collie X for safe-keeping. Bilbo, as they have temporarily called him, is a charming, fluffy older gent around +-7 years of age and has been a delight to know while in their care.

The search for his owner then kicked off. The Cape of Good Hope SPCA shared Bilbo’s story on social media in the hopes that it would help track down the owner.

“Bilbo is a very loving dog and we can’t imagine what he went through sitting next to his owner for 2 days – no food, no water and no idea about what was happening, “why is my master not talking to me or petting me or walking me like he normally does?”

We have seen firsthand just how incredible the bond between homeless people and their pets can be…
So often these dogs are the only source of unconditional love and companionship in their lives, and if this man has survived, we are sure he is missing Bilbo dearly.”

Sadly, there has been no update yet regarding Bilbo’s beloved owner. The search is still on so if you can assist, please contact the CoGH SPCA here.

Even though Bilbo has not yet been reunited with his owner, thousands of people have been moved by his story and reached out to offer him a few creature comforts. Pack Leader Pet Products contacted the SPCA to provide a big bag of delicious dog food for the now famous dog.

Pictured below, you can see he is very excited about his new food and is already licking his chops! We will keep you updated as the story progresses.
