After having a pot of boiled water thrown over half his body (twice!!!), Brownie was taken in by the Pet Empowerment in Townships (PETS JHB) team. He is ready to find his loving forever home.
Johannesburg, South Africa (30 July 2024) – Brownie started his life facing unimaginable cruelty but he was saved and now it’s his chance in life to soak in more love than he could ever dream of; Brownie needs a home, whether forever, or just a foster space.
In April 2024, PETS JHB got a message that Brownie had suffered burns up the side of his body at the hands of a man in the community who had taken to holding a grudge against Brownie. He had poured a pot of boiling water on him. The absolute worst part of all was that this time was the second time the person had done this to him.
Not a minute could pass with Brownie staying where he was. PETS JHB rushed to his aid, getting him away from his abuser and getting him the treatment his painful burns needed. His owner relinquished ownership in the hope of saving him from something far worse.
The man was known as the team, but because there was no proof, further action was tough. However, the SPCA did visit the man to issue a verbal warning. While the whole situation was frustrating, the focus shifted towards getting Brownie back to health.
“He still has the scars from where he was burnt. He has led an incredibly hard life just trying to survive and all the scars he bares are evidence of that. Yet despite how cruel people have been to him; he still craves love and is so sweet. He is excellent with people and other dogs and not very large himself, he’s knee height. Our vet had another one of our pups in hospital for a while, while she was recovering from leg surgery. And Mila (the puppy) used to squeeze through the vet cage bars and go visit him and eat his food and he just let her.Our vet thinks he’s about 4 but he could be younger. He still acts very much like a puppy. He doesn’t really play with other dogs (we don’t think he knows how) yet despite the horrific abuse he’s been through he just wants to be with people. So he would make an ideal only dog or can be with a female dog & he’s good with people and kids (never once snapping at anyone trying to help him despite the pain).”
It is estimated that Brownie is 4-years-old and he is good with both dogs and cats. If you would like to find out more about him, you can reach PETS JHB here. Be advised the images of his burned body are hard to see, but we take comfort in knowing he is not in pain anymore. If you click through to the post, it will be visible however, if you prefer to not see it, you can email the team here to find out about his adoption.
