Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis proves he’s got more than just political muscle…
Cape Town, South Africa (06 August 2025) – Cape Town’s mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis, isn’t afraid to break a sweat, especially if it means showing up for the communities he serves.
This week, he swapped city council for cardio, joining the Fearless Fitness Ladies of Manenberg for a workout session that had him sweating more than most budget debates.
The gathering went down at the Sherwood Park Multipurpose Centre, where the women-led group has been building more than just strength. Led by Grace and ‘Aunty Pamela’, Fearless Fitness brings together all of the best things: community, movement and laughter, exactly the kind of space that keeps spirits high in Manenberg.
The Mayor joined the session with a smile, a skip in his step, and a warning to anyone underestimating these ladies.
“Moenie hierdie tannies onderskat nie – they’re true athletes!” he posted afterwards. “Can’t wait to join them again.”
Councillor Deidre De Vos also paid tribute to the women behind Fearless Fitness:
“Thank you for being women of wisdom, insight, and action—doing things many wouldn’t even think of, yet creating such a powerful and safe space for women to uplift one another and grow stronger together.”
Judging by the roar of approval in the comments, Mayor Lewis is welcome at all fitness classes not just in Cape Town, but across SA.
“You’re such an awesome mayor,” wrote Louise Wilkins. “The ladies must’ve loved it.”
He’s really no stranger to showing up where it matters. Not just at big announcements or ribbon cuttings, but at the soul of Cape Town’s communities. His face is a familiar one across the Mother City, often spotted at schools and street corners.
Dancing and laughing alongside Manenberg’s fearless fitness queens is just one of the many ways he shows up!
