SA-born actress Charlize Theron has joined a host big name celebrities‚ philanthropists and business people on Time Magazine’s annual most influential list.

The magazine named Charlize among the most Influential People of 2016‚ honouring the actress for her philanthropic work and contribution towards AIDS awareness.

In a touching tribute‚ well-known philanthropist Blake Mycoskie wrote: “A lot of celebrities know how to raise awareness. Charlize Theron is different. First‚ she is deeply‚ deeply involved in the actual work of her foundation‚ the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project; for the past nine years she has spent a lot of time in southern Africa with young people‚ helping them protect themselves from HIV.”

“Second‚ she’s incredibly results-oriented and knows her programs really well. And third — and this is what makes her particularly effective with people who can make stuff happen — she’s not afraid to say what’s on her mind. I’ve never met anyone who holds less back. That means people trust her‚ which helps spread her influence.”

Blake went on to write about his own work in helping children receive much needed shoes and says Charlize’s work brings a similar hope and happiness to the children she helps.

Charlize took to Instagram on Thursday to thank Blake for his tribute‚ saying: “Blake‚ all the respect and admiration in the world for you. Beyond humbled by your kind words.”

Other performers on the list include Ariana Grande‚ Kendrick Lemar‚ Idris Elba‚ Nicki Minaj‚ Taraji P. Henson (of Empire fame) and Adele.
