Residents in Parkhurst have been hailed heroes for rushing to help a woman being mugged, taking down the perp and ensuring he was arrested!
Parkhurst, Johannesburg (07 December 2020) – Enough is enough, South Africans are taking a stand and protecting each other. Recently residents in Parkhurst took down a mugger after he mugged a woman and attempted to flee.
The video of the woman being mugged hit social media and quickly went viral. South Africans watching the harrowing attack collectively rejoiced when seeing that the mugger had been taken down by residents in Parkhurst.
In the video, which came from a fellow resident’s CCTV camera system, you can see the woman walking along the street and what appears to be a jogger coming up behind her. The mugger’s modus operandi is clear; by impersonating a jogger, something commonly seen in the area, he is able to get close enough to the woman without spiking her suspicion.
Once the attack begins, the woman refuses to give in and while hanging onto her bag she fights and screams. It is this action that gives residents enough time to come out and catch the mugger.
They often say, don’t fight back, give the criminal what they want but in this case; this woman fighting back, got one more bad guy off the streets of South Africa. Hopefully, justice will be served.
Please note the video contains violent content and may be upsetting to some. We have shared it to show the incredible actions of the community members that rushed to help protect the woman that had been attacked.
We would like to urge our readers to remain vigilant and alert. The year has been a hard one and opportunistic crime will be on the rise, especially now as we get closer to the festive season. If you are going to be giving your domestic worker a cash bonus this year, perhaps discuss with her the best option. Many domestic workers will become targets now as we get to the year-end.

After the attack, the woman was taken in and checked; besides being very shaken, she was mostly unharmed but will have a few scrapes and bruises in the coming days.
The mugger has already had his first court appearance too!
Thanks for sharing the video and message. The lady is fine. The attacker appeared in court this morning. I made the tackle and am feeling slightly peppered up but I’m glad we could get a criminal off the streets.
