Darcy Pell jumped into an icy lake to rescue a dog… and then continued with his jog around the park.

Yorkshire, England (13 January 2021) – Darcy Pell, a 31-year old from Featherston in Yorkshire faced the icy-cold waters and smashed through the ice to save a dog!

Paula Town was ay Pontefract Park, West Yorkshire when she saw what was happening and took her phone out to capture the heroic moment.

She told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “When we got to the lake, I could see a dog in the water, it was trying to get on to the ice but kept falling back in. I felt panic-stricken and scoured the side of the lake for a lifebuoy but couldn’t find one. Luckily that guy came along – he lowered himself into the water, and the rest is on the video.”

Pell was seen by the crowd breaking the ice while swimming towards the dog, he freed the pup, swam back to the edge of the lake and handed the animal to its owners. He then wished everyone well, said goodbye and carried on with his jog!

Pell was tagged in the video but responded by saying that he is not a hero and just helped a dog in need.

“Luckily, I swim in cold/icy water as a hobby and know the risks it can cause. Carried on my run after so no big deal. Was given a jacket by my run buddy. Obviously wouldn’t recommend people doing the same. Just glad the dog was happy to carry on its walk after.”
