A delivery driver recently met an elderly man who was lost and confused; calling his brother for help, the two delivery drivers got the elderly man home, reuniting him with his panic-stricken family.

South Africa (08 December 2024) – For every family that has a loved one who is slowly slipping away, the fear of them wandering off and not being able to find their way home or remember a loved one’s number is a constant.

This became a reality for one family recently when their patriarch wandered off as it began to darken outside. In a Somerset West home, heart rates quickened, and panic set in as the family realised their elderly father was missing. His care home had notified them that he had wandered off. They began the search, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to find his way home in the dark due to his deteriorating memory.

Thankfully, Tylon, a Woolworths Dash driver from Waterstone, came across the gentleman at a robot on the N2. He was clearly disorientated and confused. The man remembered the name of his care home and told Tylon that he needed help getting there.

Tylon didn’t recognise the name of the home, so he called his brother Tyson, who is also a Dash driver. Tyson headed straight to where his brother was to lend a helping hand. Tylon waited with the elderly man for the 30 minutes it took his brother to travel to them, and then both delivery drivers escorted the gentleman safely back to the care home.

“It became clear that the elderly gentleman had not been well in the days leading up to the incident. In a deeply confused and fragile state, he had taken his car from his care home in Somerset West, but did not return. The family spent hours driving the streets in distress, the police were contacted and were on the lookout. It was after 9pm when the family got a call letting them know that their father had been brought back to the home safely by two Woolies Dash drivers.”

Later, the man’s daughter reached out to the team online to thank Tylon and Tyson for helping her father get home safely. A reunion was arranged, and the video touched many hearts. This story is just another highlight in the spirit of Ubuntu that runs through the heart of South Africa.

The now-viral video is moving people to tears. The selfless gesture helped a family breathe a sigh of relief after one of the most stressful days in their lives! Take a look below:
