A man was photographed helping an elderly lady trapped by the floods, this led to a search for the Durban Hero so people could say thank you to him.
Earlier today we shared the story about the hero caught on camera risking his life to save an elderly woman during the Durban Storm. The story quickly went viral and at the end of the post, we requested that anyone with information please let us know as we were looking for the Durban Hero.
The first person to contact us was Janet Hart, the woman that had been trapped in the car. She confirmed the man’s actions were truly heroic and she was petrified of what might happen while stuck in the car.
“I am the elderly lady in the car and I am eternally grateful to the gentleman who stopped his Time Freight van and rescued me. I was petrified and he assured me that he was also a lifesaver…. truly my hero. Thank you” – Janet Hart
Janet’s son, Richard Hart, saw our story and shared it confirming that he too was looking for the man that helped his mother. The family were hoping to get in contact to show the man how thankful they were.
“The lady in the vehicle was my mom and we are desperately trying to find this hero to give him a reward. We have a licence plate number and the company he works for. He performed this heroic act and then simply carried on with his job for the day. He didn’t wait around for a thanks. He just did this out of the kindness in his heart.”
“His exact words to my mom, before he dived in were, “Mama don’t be scared I’m a life saver and I’m coming to get you.”What a hero. Please help us find him. He works for Timefreight.” – Richard Hart
Richard searched and finally managed to find the man that saved his mother. South Africa, meet Matrick Mbhele, the Durban hero! His full name is Sibusiso Manduzu Matrick Mbhele, but he goes by the name of Matrick.
Matrick is our SPAR hero of the week which means that he will also be receiving a parcel from Good Things Guy & SPAR for his valiant efforts.
Richard and his father will be meeting up with Matrick to say thank you and offer him a reward. We will keep you updated should any more news come from this phenominal story.
