Firefighters were on the receiving end of support this week as they fought back a tragic fire in the city of Johannesburg; Gift of the Givers is in the city, helping where they can.

Johannesburg, South Africa (01 September 2023) – Gift of the Givers have been on the ground at the tragic Johannesburg Fire, lending a helping hand to the firefighters who were putting out the blaze. They delivered meals and water to help keep the firefighters energised and ready to tackle the blaze.

A fire broke out in a 5-storey building in Marshalltown, Johannesburg. The harrowing disaster has seen hundreds of people lose their homes and the death toll is currently at 74 and rising. The building was reportedly populated by mostly migrant workers and asylum seekers; residents were deeply poverty-stricken.

Firefighters arrived at the building in the early hours of Thursday morning, the 31st of August 2023, and started working to put out the blaze.

The Gift of the Givers serves humanity unconditionally; assisting all of creation, irrespective of race, religion, colour class, political affiliation or geographic location. They never fail to show up when humans need them most.

They started out by offering aid to firefighters in the immediate aftermath of the fire. They had water and food for the teams, giving them an energy boost. There is much to be done and we have every faith they will help wherever needed and allowed.
