From Jozi to charts around the world, Tyla Seethal’s sound has broken records and put South Africa on the map—something she ensures through her appreciation and love for home:

Global (09 October 2023) — Tyla Seethal may have been bitten by the beat in her home city of Johannesburg, but her sound is far from confined to local listening. The 21-year-old Joburg artist’s rise to virality and global appreciation continues full steam ahead, and with it, a brighter spotlight on South African sounds and culture.

Tyla has made several impressive strides in her music career recently, with some going down in the history books! From following in Lloyiso’s footsteps by lighting up Time Square in New York to breaking into the UK’s Top 10 Chart, this Jozi girl is making South Africa enormously proud.

Not to mention, Tyla also broke the record for the most monthly Spotify listeners for a South African artist, per Chart Data. This saw her surpass Master KG (Jerusalema) who praised the news and congratulated her talent on this history-made milestone:

Adding to the accolades, her song ‘Water’ reached one million views on its debut day, and currently sits at #2 on YouTube’s Music Trending.

On TikTok, her #TylaWaterChallenge has taken off with people from all around the world joining in on the viral dance, so much so that it was featured in TIME Magazine.

As such, the Joburg artist’s journey has caught the globe’s attention, and in turn, more curiosity for South Africa, our music scene and our culture.

And, in full true circle fashion, Tyla is a proud Joburger and South African who reminds the world where she comes from frequently:
