If Marcelle Viljoen hadn’t moved down the road, her home in Melkbosstrand would’ve burnt with the rest of her neighbours’ homes last month. Refusing to let them struggle alone, she embarked on a mission to get them back on their feet.
Melkbosstrand, South Africa (2 June, 2023) — Marcelle Viljoen (60), a longstanding resident of the Ouskip Caravan Resort community for the past 15 years, has taken a proactive step to support families devastated by a recent fire.
They were her neighbours; left with just the clothes on their backs last month. And, one of the homes that was impacted was once hers before she moved.
Extending great sympathy and support, she set out to launch a crowdfunding campaign to help them rebuild their lives from the basics.
The primary objective of the campaign is to secure funds for the acquisition of vital raw materials and items, including, but not limited to, second-hand caravans, tents, awnings, electrical equipment, and household items such as beds, fridges, stoves, and gas appliances, which will help the families start again and regain a sense of stability.
What started from one person’s kindness has been able to raise just under R10 000 for them. However, that’s less than 10% of the way there.
Non-profit, The Melkbos Rotary Club has kindly taken over the management and distribution of the campaign, in direct contact with the Ouskip fire victims. They share that donors will be able to witness firsthand, how their contributions are utilized, as well as the direct impact they have on the lives of the affected Melkbosstrand families.
Transparency and accountability are priorities to the campaign and comprehensive records will be maintained and made available to all contributors on request!
Thanks to Marcelle Viljoen, the ball is rolling but there’s still a lot of room to help.
